Jonah Brazier is an undergraduate Mechanical Engineering student at UC Santa Barbara. He works under the mentorship of Sumita Pennathur and San Diego based startup Avery Biosciences. His work focuses on surface characterization of nanofluidic platforms for biomolecule manipulation. He performs Current Monitoring and Electrokinetic Injection experiments with a variety of conditions to provide data about the surface potential at the solid-liquid interface, and uses fluorescence microscopy and image analysis techniques to characterize the flow of tagged DNA molecules in these devices. His research has informed the design of future generations of nanofluidic platforms. He is also studying nanofabrication techniques at UCSB’s Nanofab and aims to get a master’s degree in Materials Engineering from UCSB’s accelerated BSMS program by 2029.
